Free Microsoft 365 plugin

The Legal Case Analyst plugin for Word and Excel

Analyse the contract you already have open in Word — severity-ranked issues tied to clauses, verified authorities, balance of power and preliminary advice — then jump to each flagged clause, add the findings as comments, and open the full report as a Word document. In Excel, track findings across a matter in a filterable worksheet.

What the plugin does, in full →

Download the plugin

The plugin is free. Each analysis is billed exactly as on the website — one document up to 20,000 words for the standard price, metered above that (see pricing). You buy at app.legalcaseanalyst.com/buy/plugin in your browser — there is no file to pick, the plugin reads the document you already have open — then claim the order inside the pane with your order number and checkout email. Your document text is sent to our servers to be analysed; the file itself is never stored.

Word — contract review

  • Analyses the document open in Word
  • Click a finding to jump to the clause
  • Insert findings as Word comments
  • Full memo report opens as a new Word document
Download Word manifest

Excel — case analysis & matter tracking

  • Analyse contracts, judgments and filings (.pdf, .docx, .txt)
  • Findings written to a filterable tracking sheet
  • Severity-coloured issue rows, one line per finding
  • Word and PDF reports downloadable
Download Excel manifest
The download is a small manifest file — a configuration file that tells Microsoft 365 where to find the plugin. It contains no software itself; the plugin runs from our servers and updates automatically. Microsoft’s own menus call plugins “add-ins” — same thing, and that is the word you will see in the steps below.

How to install

Word or Excel on the web (easiest)

  1. Open a document at office.com
  2. Go to Add-ins (Home ribbon) → More Add-ins → My Add-ins tab
  3. Choose Upload My Add-in and select the downloaded manifest file
  4. A Legal Case Analyst button appears on the Home ribbon

Windows desktop

Microsoft requires manifests on Windows to load from a Trusted Add-in Catalog: put the manifest in a shared folder (share the folder with yourself), add that folder under File → Options → Trust Center → Trust Center Settings → Trusted Add-in Catalogs (tick Show in Menu), restart Office, then Insert → My Add-ins → Shared Folder. If that sounds like work, use Word on the web above — it is the same plugin.

Mac desktop

  1. Copy the Word manifest into
    ~/Library/Containers/com.microsoft.Word/Data/Documents/wef/
(create the wef folder if it does not exist; Excel equivalent: com.microsoft.Excel)
  2. Quit and reopen the app
  3. Insert → Add-ins → My Add-ins → Developer Add-ins → Legal Case Analyst

For firms — deploy to the whole practice

A Microsoft 365 administrator can deploy the plugin to selected users centrally: Microsoft 365 admin center → Settings → Integrated apps → Upload custom app → upload the manifest → assign users. Everyone assigned gets the ribbon button automatically, with no per-machine installation.

Using it

  1. Open the pane from the Legal Case Analyst ribbon button
  2. Buy a report at /buy/plugin in your browser (pay per document)
  3. In the pane, enter your order number and checkout email
  4. Choose jurisdiction and document type, or leave both on Auto-detect
  5. Analyse — the report renders in the pane in minutes, and is also emailed to you with Word and PDF attachments
Automated decision support — not legal advice. Legal Case Analyst is not a law firm, does not provide legal advice, and no solicitor reviews a report before it reaches you. For legal advice, consult a licensed practitioner in your jurisdiction.
